Get Bent is a family-owned business co-managed by John and Wendy Goudie.   Since opening in 2003, Get Bent has grown from a tiny 500 sq/ft studio into an award-winning community centre with a team of over 20 staff and volunteers.  Get Bent’s mission is to “Build healthy individuals and a healthy community” with our uplifting and unique programs.

Get Bent is Western Canada’s largest Belly Dance School.  Each year, the Get Bent Bollywood Bellydancers performs hundreds of dance shows throughout BC.

  • In 2005, Get Bent created our trademark dance-style called Get Bent Bollywood Bellydancing.   Get Bent Bollywood Bellydancing is a celebration of dance, music and cultural diversity.  Our uplifting dance style blends the beauty of Middle Eastern dance techniques with the high-energy of Bollywood movies

  • In 2012, Get Bent founded BC BellyFest ~ a belly dance conference and festival that attracts belly dancers from throughout Western Canada.

  • Get Bent was awarded Dance Awards from the Okanagan Arts Council, 2012 and Penticton Arts Council, 2015

  • Get Bent is heavily involved in community events, fundraising and partnerships.  Each year, Get Bent raises funds for numerous local charities.

  • We also provide anti-bullying and esteem building workshops at  Public School Programs throughout BC

Get Bent Active Arts Society

Get Bent Active Arts SocietyGet Bent’s non-profit organization the Get Bent Active Arts Society (GBAAS) provides a number of valuable community programs:

  • The Esteem Team – teaches workshops in public schools on anti-bullying, self-esteem and the media’s impact on body image.
  • Touring Performances – non-profit dance shows that tour theatres and public schools throughout Western Canada
  • Youth Scholarships – financial aid for local youth to help them participate in healthy arts activities. 
  • The Esteem Team was awarded the Young Leaders Award

  • Financial Support: Our policy is to never turn away someone for an inability to pay. Get Bent provides a number of options for people to attend our programs.

Meet our Directors ~ Wendy & John Goudie

Wendy Goudie, Get Bent DirectorWendy Goudie is a sought-after performer, choreographer and teacher in her trademark style Get Bent Bollywood BellydancingWendy is a second generation belly dancer who has instructed hundreds of belly dance students in Canada.  Wendy is also a yoga instructor and completed the Advanced Instructor Training in Iyengar Yoga at the Yoga Institute of Miami.  Wendy is a faculty member of the South Okanagan Yoga Academy.

John Goudie, Get Bent DirectorJohn Goudie has a diploma in Recreation Management & Leadership.   John has over 25 years experience managing recreation programs in BC and Ontario.  Prior to Get Bent, John managed programs at the Kelowna Family Y, Vic West Y, North Bay YMCA and Saanich Commonwealth Place.  John also managed the YMCA Career Centre for Youth in Penticton.
